Numerical Modeling of Liquefaction-Induced Downdrag: Validation against Centrifuge Model Tests

چکیده
Earthquake-induced soil liquefaction can cause settlement around piles, resulting in drag load and pile after shaking stops. Estimating the axial distribution is important for designing evaluating performance of axially loaded piles liquefiable soils. Commonly used neutral plane solution methods model layer as an equivalent consolidating clay without considering sequencing pattern excess pore pressure dissipation settlement. Moreover, changes shaft tip resistance due to pressures are ignored. A TzQzLiq numerical was developed using existing TzLiq material new QzLiq modeling liquefaction-induced downdrag on piles. The accounts change pile’s capacity free-field develop or dissipate soil. validated against data from a series large centrifuge tests, procedure obtaining necessary information those described. Additionally, sensitivity study properties performed their effect Analysis results show that proposed reasonably predict time histories soils both during postshaking.

Numerical modeling of liquefaction-induced lateral spreading
ABSTRACT: Liquefaction-induced lateral spreading of soils caused by strong shaking requires careful evaluation to be properly accounted for in geotechnical, and structural design of strategic infrastructure located in highly active seismic coastal regions. Although a large number of empirical and semiempirical models are available, there is still a lot of inconsistency in their predictions. In ...

متن کاملLiquefaction of Heterogeneous Soil: Centrifuge Study
A series of centrifuge liquefaction tests have been conducted at C-CORE’s geotechnical centrifuge facility: two on variable soil and one on uniform soil deposits. A single storied frame structure resting on two strip footings was also placed on that soil deposit. Experimental results such as accelerations, excess pore water pressures (EPWP) and settlements were monitored throughout the tests. R...
متن کاملApplication of a kinematic-cyclic plasticity model in simulating sand liquefaction
The mechanical behavior of saturated soil is mainly governed by the interaction between the soil skeleton and the pore fluid, and this interaction may lead to significant loss of strength known as liquefaction under seismic loading conditions. The main objective of this paper is to implement a cyclic constitutive model based on fuzzy set plasticity theory, which is capable of modeling soil dila...
